Hosting the annual Banjo Jamboree in September- the largest collaboration of banjo players outside the Mississippi- Guildford offers much in the way relaxed atmosphere and picturesque rolling hills.
Home of the Big Tree, this River Red Gum certainly lives up to its name! The largest of its kind in the area, it is a rare survivor of the ravages of time and the gold rush. Estimated at over 500 years old it is a natural statement of majestic beauty and well worth an awe inspiring visit.
While in town stop at the corner store for a fine coffee and many delectable treats.
A few kilometers away are the beautiful Vaughan Springs, one of the most pretty and hence popular spots for a swim in the warmer months. Once a holiday spot and summer retreat for wealthy Melbournians, Vaughan Springs has historic remains of a dance floor, sprint track, miniature railway and kiosk. The giant slide is still operational but not recommended on a hot day as it is metal and in full sun – youch!!!
