Newstead

A comfortable 1.5 hour drive north-west of Melbourne or 15mins from Castlemaine, Newstead is a relaxed but vibrant town teaming with artistic talent.

Take a plunge in the community run pool, a walk along the Loddon river, have a drink at the pub or peruse the two very popular and somewhat unusual antique shops in town. And don’t forget to keep an eye out for annual events and festivals, two of note being the Newstead Live Festival, and Annual Rod and Customs Show.

Places of note  include

  • Dig Café, featuring a tasty menu and fantastic coffee, mostly sourced from local and organic products.
  • The Pirate Ship playground was made by local artists and is a fine example of the community spirit in Newstead. The playground has picnic tables and is covered by shade cloth so it is suitable all year round. This is a perfect spot to eat your fish and chips or baked goods from local shops!
